Trust me, you do not want to work at all if you go to law school full-time. I don't even know how anyone works while going part-time. It's unsolicited, but my first bit of advice is not to work at all at least for the first year of law school. To answer your question, people who go to law school part time generally finish in four years. I have a friend who's being allowed to finish in five years, but she is the only person I know of who is doing this. I had a friend in law school who worked full-time while going to school part time. He told me he was second to the bottom of the class rank-wise. Here's some more unsolicited advice: if you want to go to law school in Chicago, strive for something better than John Marshall. No offense to JM students and grads - from what I've heard and seen, it's a perfectly fine law school. But in Chicago, it is generally regarded as the worst of the six Chicago law schools. Further, it is a private school with tuition at least as high as that of the other five schools. So why someone would choose JM over any of the others is hard to fathom. If you have a low GPA or LSAT score, by all means, go to JM - you will get a solid legal education, and will meet a LOT of JM grads in Chicago who can help you get a job. But if you have a choice, go elsewhere.

my husband worked full time while in law school. (And passed the bar the first time he took it,) It took four years in California. He took time off for bar prep class (totally necessary). The Bar is where it's at. You can get a great job as a lawyer if you are a c,b student in law school but pass the bar. Too many people try to work and study for the bar. It doesn't work. The test is damn hard. Hillary Clinton didn't pass the first time. JFK jr. didn't pass the first time... A lot of people don't pass the first time. Work if you must during law school. But do not work during bar prep. good luck
