Which degree should I get to work at Chicago Board of Trade?
I am currently a student in the Chicago area with 54 credit hours and have to decide which degree to get to work at the CBOT. I want to get a degree in Economics but feel I would be limited. Finance sounds great to me also since it seems more diverse then Economics. However, a friend of mine told me that I should get a degree in Computer Science or Mathematics since trading is becoming more and more software related and less about the use of humans to execute trades. I am curious what everyone believes I should get. Thanks for any input. Financial Services - 2 Answers

Before I read your paragraph, economics was what popped into my head first. But it really depends on what you want to do there - there's really a wide variety. Was just on their site and they must have 20 jobs open - take a look and see what seems interesting to you. They also have an internship program. I looked at them about 10 years ago but I would have had to go back for my doctorate for the position I was interest in, didn't want to. I'm in finance and software knowledge is really part of the job anymore.

Your friend is correct. Firms want quantitative analysts. Trading is becoming computer algorithm vs. computer algorithm. Either one of those fields is actually more important to a firm than someone who knows theory, but can't implement it. I would major in one of those two and minor in the other; or better yet double major!
